From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on February 6, 1997 at approximately 1100 MDT, a north American SNJ-5 aircraft, N6900C experienced a partial landing gear failure. During final taxi phase following a local FAR 91 flight the aircraft's left main landing gear (MLG) collapsed. The pilot and passenger heard a squealing sound just as the left wing struck the ground. The aircraft sustained minor damage to the outboard trailing edge of the left wing and wing tip, the center and outboard aileron hinge brackets and curling of the propeller blade tips. There were no injuries to the pilot or his passenger onboard the aircraft. Post flight inspection of the aircraft's left (MLG) down lock pin revealed it to be in the unlocked position. Approximately 5 minutes later, with the aircraft's left wing still on the ground, the left gear down lock pin was observed to slowly extend to its locked position. Further inspection and disassembly of the locking pin mechanism revealed no abnormalities. Maintenance personnel will continue to inspect the aircraft's landing gear system. The pilot stated, the temperature on the ground to be -0 degrees celsius, dew point -07 degrees celsius, winds 300 @ 03, barometric pressure 30.25, and density altitude 2800 feet. A maintenance defect report, FAA form 8010-4, will follow.
