From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot reported he and his passengr were reindeer spotting north of Koyuk, AK, on 2/15/97 when his engine started running rough. He landed his ski equipped aircraft on the frozen kiwalik river aprox. 34 miles n.w. of Koyuk. There was no damage or injuries. On final approach to landing oil was noted coming from the engine and spraying onto the windshield. After landing Mr. Olson who is also a certificated A&P mechanic with I.a. rating inspected the engine.(cert.#574229910) he found the top of the engine coated with oil but could not identify the source. Another engine was brought in and the old one replaced. No further problem following the engine change.
