From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on 02-16-97 at 1200 CST, N83208, a PA-28-161, departed gainsville airport (gle), gainsville, TX on runway 35. Upon reaching 600 feet AGL, the pilot heard a loud bang and reduction of engine power. The pilot turned the aircraft back towards the airfield. The aircraft was landed long on runway 22 in a grass field. There were no injuries to the pilot and two passengers, and minor damage to the aircraft's wings (leading edge) as a result of impacting two fence posts. An inspection of the engine showed that the spark plug from #4 cylinder came out as a result of a failed helicoil. A malfunction and defect report will be submitted.
