From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot stated he used a normal procedures preflight check list during his preflight inspection. No discrepancies were noted during the preflight inspection and he stated all crews and fasteners on the cowling appeared to be in place and were secured. The pilot stated aircraft departed runway 33 at pne. At approximately 1000 ft. MSL the top engine cowling folded back onto the windshield. It then separated from the aircraft and hit the right wing leading edge of the aircraft making a small hole in the leading edge. Pilot notified pne control tower and landed runway 33 at pne. The cowling landed in a yard not FAR from the airport (pne). Our inspection of the aircraft did not show any damage to the latch receptacles. A malfunction or defect report was submitted. This matter is considered closed.
