From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: during a normal approach, pilot selected gear down and failed to get a green light on the nose gear. Pilot recycled the gear, and attempted emergency extension procedures without success. Pilot made a "fly-by" past the control tower and they reported the nose gear appeared to be trailing. Pilot elected to land with main gear down and locked. Post incident investigation revealed the push pull tube (Cessna part #0842121-1) to the nose gear had broken, which disconnected the entire nose gear linkage system from the gear motor. Time since inspection: 5 hours. Gear cycles since inspection: 8 cycles. M/d report submitted on 02/27/97. This incident is closed.
