From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: received an air carrier incident report from the abq ARTCC on March 9, 1997. The report identified united airlines flight 396, B-737-500, N955UA, at abq, NM international airport as having a problem with a stuck thrust reverser. Contacted Mr. Dan lessard, flight safety, united airlines, telephone number privacy data omitted investigation of the incident revealed that the pilot aborted his take-off at abq int'l airport during the take-off roll due to a thrust reverser indicator light illuminating. The aircraft notified the tower and returned to the gate. Contract maintenance for united airlines was called, aircraft services international (ASI) to troubleshoot the discrepancy. Investigation of the discrepancy revealed that the battery charge circuit breaker had popped, preventing the battery charging system from charging the battery. The thrust reverser light indicating system runs off the battery system. Since the circuit breaker had popped and the battery was not being charged, the first indication was an illumination of the thrust reverser indicating light. The aircraft was hooked up to ground power and the battery thermal couple relay was reset. The battery began charging, the thrust reverser indicator light extinguished and all systems was returned to service.

DAN LESSARD, FLIGHT SAFETY, UNITED AIRLINES, TELEPHONE NUMBER ^PRIVACY DATA OMI^ INVESTIGATION OF THE INCIDENT REVEALED THAT THE PILOT ABORTED HIS TAKE-OFF AT ABQ INT'L AIRPORT DURING THE TAKE-OFF ROLL DUE TO A THRUST REVERSER INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATING. THE AIRCRAFT NOTIFIED THE TOWER AND RETURNED TO THE GATE. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE FOR UNITED AIRLINES WAS CALLED, AIRCRAFT SERVICES INTERNATIONAL (ASI) TO TROUBLESHOOT THE DISCREPANCY.
