From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: while conducting FAR 137 agriculture spraying operations the aircraft encountered a whirlwind and the pilot reported that he was forced down until the right landing gear hit a ditch/roadway and the propeller tips struck the ground. The PIC stated that the propeller tips struck the ground twenty-seven times, but he was able to keep it in the air, circle around to a suitable spot, and make an emergency/precautionary landing in a hay field. The imbalance of the propeller blades (severe vibration) caused damages to the turbo-prop engine. The pilot reported that the landing gear may not be damaged. He also reported that the aircraft was running great up to the point of impact. 4/30/97, aircraft repairs completed, minimal damages to engine, but propeller was destroyed. Installed new propeller. No other damages to aircraft. This incident and investigation are closed. This incident did not involve a pilot deviation report 8020-17.

As the FAA filed it
