From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: at approximately 1100 CDT on may 2, 1997, N32PT, a CE-340 departed IFR from runway 12 at Waterloo, Iowa (alo) to Kansas city, MO (mkcs). Approximately ten miles south of Waterloo, the pilot reported his instruments were unstable. He stated in a radio transmission "the needles were spinning". He was unable to maintain assigned altitude or heading. Weather at Waterloo was marginal VFR. The aircraft was given radar vectors to VFR conditions in the Iowa falls, Iowa area. He could not maintain control of the aircraft (heading or altitude). The controller got the pilot to turn on the autopilot in an effort to regain control. The pilot did that and was able to get the aircraft back to Waterloo with ATC assistance. Upon examination of Mr. Hogan's pilot logbook, it appears he did not have the currency requirements to carry passengers in accordance with the far's. also, during an examination of the aircraft and engine logbooks, it was discovered that at least one airworthiness directive has been overflown. privacy data omitted This incident is considered closed with this report.
