From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: flight originated with PIC in right seat, private pilot in left seat, and a CFI as a rear seat passenger. Initial purpose of flight was for PIC to perform instrument approaches to raleigh durham airport. Due to traffic conditions at rdu, flight changed to dual instruction in complex aircraft for the benefit of private pilot. During attempt to land at Franklin County Airport, a simulated engine out was initiated. The gear horn sounded and the landing gear extended as a result of the automatic landing gear extension system. The private pilot landed without damage to the aircraft. The PIC took control of the aircraft, and proceeded to demonstrate a short field take off. Upon reaching near take off airspeed, the landing gear retracted as a result of the automatic landing gear extension system. Power was reduced due to belief that a strut had settled and the aircraft ground looped and came to a rest next to the runway. No injuries occurred. According to the pic's statement the landing gear handle was never selected to the down position during prelanding or postlanding checks. Note: aircraft landing gear system was checked for proper operation after incident at maintenance facility. No abnormalities were found. Gear functioned exactly as per pilot operating handbook with regard to position, warning horns, and lights. privacy data omitted

As the FAA filed it

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^
