From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: Cessna aircraft N13804, piloted by richard morton venable, private pilot certificate no.232403308, attempted to land on runway 33 at the Yeager Airport in Charleston, west Virginia. The pilot stated that upon receiving a land and hold short clearance from the control tower while he was on final approach, he became a little nervous and saw that his approach was too high. He attempted to compensate by making his approach steeper, but this resulted in too much speed which caused the aircraft to float. The pilot then pushed the nose of the aircraft over to make contact with the runway, which caused the aircraft to bounce hard on the nose wheel and subsequently separate from the aircraft. The aircraft ran off of the runway and the broken nose gear dug into the turf along the runway and caused the aircraft to flip over on to its top. As a result of this incident the aircraft received minor damage but the pilot, who was the only occupant was uninjured. Submission of this report closes this incident.

As the FAA filed it
