From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: this report is in response to an FAA form 8020-11, incident no. ZMP-ARTCC-1412, dated 07/30/97, received from the minneapolis artc center. The incident report stated that on July 29, 1997 at about 1210 UTC, N3741MM Beechcraft, E90, was at 16,000 feet when the ATC equipment indicated N3741M, at 12,000 feet. N3741M landed in Bismarck, ND and a leak in the aircraft's static equipment was detected. The problem was corrected by a local, Bismarck, ND certificated repair station, and the aircraft was approved for return to service on July 29, 1997. After a preliminary investigation of the incident, airworthiness is considered a factor in the cause of the incident. A leak in the aircraft's static system caused an invalid altitude indication. This problem was corrected and the aircraft was approved for return to service.
