From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 07, 1997, we (inspector Robinson and inspector carnathan) arrived on scene and found the aircraft located on the side of a steep mountain. One witness in the area of the crash site stated that he did not visually see the aircraft fly by but in fact had heard the audible sound of the aircraft flying by his location. Witness stated aircraft engine audible sounds were rough similar to a helicopter. Minutes later witness stated he heard the impact then saw a fire. On August 09, 1997, a company called "plane parts based in sacramento extracted the wreckage from the hill side and returned to their shop to prepare the engine for inspection and a possible functional check of the engine. Inspectors area currently awaiting the results of the inspections and functional checks.
