From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: after refueling his aircraft at Seeley Lake, the pilot stated that he took off to continue a VFR flight to seattle. Approximately five miles south of Seeley Lake he heard a loud noise from his engine and at the same time his windscreen was sprayed with oil. He shut down his engine, declared an emergency to gtf fss and landed his aircraft on lake placid - small lake he had spotted before the engine failed. A boater towed him to shore. Investigation by a mechanic from minuteman aviation in missoua, MT showed that the engine had blown a rod and had a hole in the top of the case. There was no other damage to the aircraft. The engine was a factory reman. With 305 hours and it will be sent to the manufacturer for tear down. They will send us the results of the teardown. This report is closed.
