From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: I received a call from the r.o. comm center at 8:00 pm 8/12/97 concerning an incident involving a Cessna 172 aircraft, N68628, at Bowman field Louisville KY. The aircraft ran into a t hangar while the owner was hand propping the aircraft. The proper registration number for the aircraft involved in this incident is N65628. I looked at the aircraft and the hangar and discussed the incident with the owner. Mr. Speaker stated he was going to take the aircraft up to the FBO to have air up in the nose tire and that he was not going to fly the aircraft at this time. Mr. Speaker's spouse was at the controls at the time of this incident. She stated she got nervous and confused and pushed the throttle in instead of pulling it out. The aircraft traveled approximately 40 yards and struck the front of a t hangar. Upon contacting the hangar doors the engine stopped. I contacted the flight service station and Mr. Speaker had not filed a flight plan within the last 72 hr's. I then talked to the airport manager concerning the amount of damage to the t hangar and he stated that it should be less than $5,000.00. The regional duty officer was contacted around 10:30 am on 8/13/97 and notified of the status of this incident. This incident does not meet the requirements for an accident threrfore this incident is considered closed as no action.
