From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot stated that he departed "sunset strip" a (pvt) airport located about 10 miles n.w. of alliance, Ohio. He departed about 13:40(local) for a local flight, returning to "sunset" at an altitude of about 1500 AGL. The engine started to lose power, the pilot stated that he believed it to be carb ice. He applied carb heat and momentarily it appeared to improve. The engine began to clatter and power continued to fail. He touched down in a field about 1 mile sw of barber airport (2D1)and rolled out. The engine at the time had stopped. As the aircraft rolled and was nearly to a stop contact with the nose hit a small ditch, which could not be seen. It tore off the nose wheel and turned the aircraft to the right. Striking some bushes. The flight ended about 14:30. Inspection revealed #1 cylinder connecting rod failed.
