From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: newly licensed private pilot was building time in the early morning hours of Sunday 9/7/97 and experienced a rough running engine. The airplane was vibrating violently so the pilot decided to land the airplane as soon as possible. Landing was made in a parking lot of a paper mill. There was minor airplane damage and the pilot was unhurt. After investigation of the airplane it was determined that the incident occurred due to valve problems in the #4 cylinder in which there was little compression. Checked engine compression on all (4 ea) cylinders, found compression on cylinders #1, #2, and #3 to be normal, but the #4 cylinder was very low. Removed #4 cylinder rocker arm cover and both rocker arms, and checked valves for carbon build up. Carbon build up was found and after removal the compression in #4 cylinder was the same as the other 3 cylinders. Aircraft was serviced with 100LL gas. Operator will submit m or d report.
