From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on September 07, 1997, at 19:10 MDT, a Cessna 182B, N181DL, registered to c. frank davis of las cruces, new Mexico, lost the left main wheel and brake assemblies after the left tire blew during landing at El Paso International Airport in El Paso, Texas. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and weather was not a factor. The aircraft sustained minor damage and the commercial pilot and two passengers were uninjured. The 14 CFR part 91 flight originated at 13:00 MDT in tulsa, Oklahoma with a fuel stop in lubbock, Texas. No flight plan had been filed by the pilot, john franklin jennings, certificate #1483890. It appears the tail wheel centering bearing may not have been rotating smoothly which caused the tail wheel to "jerk" as it tried to center itself. This in turn caused the pilot to have problems with directional control during the landing roll out. When the airplane is hangared and the repair process is begun, the tail wheel will be disassembled/inspected and the findings will be reported to the abq FSDO. An m or d will be initiated as necessary.

As the FAA filed it
