From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the banner tow pilot attempted to pick up a banner from too low a position resulting in the banner becoming hooked on the aircraft tail wheel assembly. During the landing attempt with the banner attached at the tail wheel, the pilot apparently pitched down in an attempt to reach the runway prior to the banner contacting the ground. The hard landing caused the left main landing gear strut to fail, followed by the left wing tip and propeller contacting the runway. No other damage or injuries were sustained. The minor damage was repaired. All company pilots received a flight check from the operator after the occurrence. The owner-operator observed the occurrence, questioned the pilot involved, assessed his attitude and his performance on the flight check. His information was discussed with inspectors of FSDO-17. In his opinion and the opinion of the inspectors, no further action is recommended.
