From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on September 8, 1997, CDT, a DC-9 operated by northwest airlines made contact with a parked aircraft during powerback operations. Both the ground marshaller and the wing walker were aware of the second aircraft that was in a parked position on the ramp behind the power-back gate, however, they felt they could maneuver the aircraft around the parked aircraft during the powerback. The flight crew was not aware of pending ramp traffic. VFR conditions prevailed. Both aircraft received substantial empennage damage. After a review, the NTSB determined this to be an incident. There were no injuries.
