From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the barrel of the nose strut was machined to fit the nose wheel fork. This reduction of wall thickness compromised the strength of the tube causing a failure. Builder will modify the fork assembly allowing the tube to retain original wall thickness. This aircraft is the first to fly, kit manufacturer was notified to the problem so they can alert others to the problem. On September 14, 1997 at 1200 cdst, an air shark ii, an amateur built aircraft, N42AE, had a nose gear failure on landing rollout at Green Bay Austin strubel airport runway 36. The aircraft sustained only minor damage. The private pilot report no injuries. The flight was a personal flight conducted under CFR part 91 rules and visual meteorological conditions. No flight plan was filed. The flight originated at the Green Bay airport with that being the final destination.
