From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: incident investigation 09-20-97, CT river at Goodspeed Airport, East Haddam, CT. CFI doug dringoli and student, richard matthies, were practicing engine out landings in the CT river next to Goodspeed Airport. In right hand bank to landing, proximity to shore line was of concern, bank was steepened to clear shore line. Approached water and tried to roll right wing tip up at that point, contacted water in shallow turn to the right. Right float struck first and broke spreader bar causing floats to diverge. Centrifugal force pitched the aircraft to the left causing the left wing to dig into the water. Aircraft came to rest listing forward and to the left.
