From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on September 30, 1997, at approximately 2205 PST, delta air lines, inc., owner and operator of a Boeing 727(N297WA) aircraft was parked at the Los Angeles int. Airport (lax), terminal #5 and gate #50B. This aircraft was struck by another delta owned Lockheed 1011 (N751DA), which was being towed to its hangar. Aircraft N297WA was waiting for it's passengers and departure. This would have been a passenger revenue flight from lax to phoenix, Arizona (phx). The flight crew did file an IFR flight plan; which was cancelled due to the aircraft damage. The lower rudder and vertical stabilizer received enough minor damage to prevent the aircraft's departure. The pilot does hold a current ATP rating for Boeing 727. Recommendations: none: privacy data omitted
