From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on November 13, 1997, at approximately 1230 EST, a Cessna 421-A (c-gicc) registered in Canada to crown mail and delivery, po box 1434, hangar 4, brantford, ontario, Canada N3TFT6 was piloted by Mr. David a. ippolito on final approach to Moore County Airport, Southern Pines, north carolina, when the aircraft made a gear up landing. The canadian certificated pilot indicated that everything on final approach appeared to be normal and the before landing checks were completed. Upon landing, the pilot stated he heard a grinding noise and assumed the gear had collapsed. The aircraft slid approximately 650 yards to a stop. Crew and passengers exited the aircraft without injury. Ms. Christi drusha, a ticket agent at usairways, witnessed the gear up landing. Ms. Drusha stated that she saw the aircraft on final approach with the gear up and that it appeared when the aircraft touched down the pilot tried to make a go-around but was unsuccessful (see statement). This appears to be consistent with the damage the aircraft sustained. The damage was limited to the under skin and the propellers. At this time the incident is closed and being forwarded to the canadian department of transportation. No further action.
