From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Crystal jean simmons was receiving an airplane single engine sea flight test conducted by robert c. basinger (#001659272), designated pilot examiner aea FSDO-03, when the incident occurred. Information received by the pilot in command, MS. Simmons, stated that while conducting a step maneuver, she noticed an obstruction in the river. As a result of the impact with the water, there was damage to the leading edge of the left wing. Both left and right sponson had to be replaced due to impact damage. The leading edge of the left wing required replacement of an outer skin area approximately 11 inches by 36 inches and internal repair of nose rib. Submission of this report closes this incident.
