From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft expered power failure after take off made emerg laning and struck fence, Dawson, ND. (.4)the pilot said that engine power was lost during initial climb. He conducted a forced landing off the airport and the airplane impacted a fence. According to the icing probability chart, the conditions favorable to the formation of induction system icing existed based on the temperature and dew point at the two nearest reporting stations. The pilot said that he 'tried' carburetor heat after the loss of power; however, the airplane touched down prior to engine power being restored. (-23) private pilot departedalone from grass strip. At approx 400' AGL, plane lost power/rpm and recovered for about 3-5 seconds before losing power again. Pilot made emergency landing in open field. A/c struck iron fence poles and sustained major damage to wings (left fuel tank area was also punctured). Pilot reported no injuries.
