From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot stated that as he approached Kamuela airport he requested winds for kona international airport (koa) from honolulu center and was advised that the winds favored runway 17, the normal tradewinds runway at kona. Kona, although 30 miles away, was the nearest airport with weather reporting capability. Accordingly, pilot anticipated the normal tradewinds runway 4 approach to Kamuela. On right downwind to runway 4, he looked for the windsocks at the ends of runway 4 and 22, but they were unlighted and not visible. Crossing the threshold on runway 4, pilot realized the winds favored runway 22 and executed a missed approach. He then reportedly raised the landing gear for the go-around procedure, but due to cockpit distractions "...just plain forgot to lower the gear prior to landing..." On runway 22 at Kamuela.

As the FAA filed it
