From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Wind gust swerved 195 on landing. Student froze. CFI unable takeover. 195 ground looped. Folded left main gear. (-23) on January 12, 1998, @ 1500 hours MST, this office received a report that a certified flight instructor and student pilot lost control of a Cessna 195A, N1073D, during the landing phase of flight. The loss of control resulted in aircraft ground looping and traveling off the right side of the runway. No injuries were reported and meteorological conditions were not a factor. On January 20, 1998, @ 1000 hours MST, this inspector interviewed the flight instructor and inspected the aircraft. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left main landing gear, left wing, aft fuselage/empennage, and left horizontal stabilizer. The left main landing, fuselage attachment fitting tore through the cabin structure, just forward of the pilot's position. The aircraft airworthiness certificate, registration, and aircraft log books were not found in the aircraft. Mr. H. Goddard, the flight instructor, provided this inspector with a written statement of facts, conditions, and circumstances pertinent to the accident. On February 2, 19 98, @ 1100 hours MST, this inspector made contact with Mr. Richard manning, the student pilot. Mr manning was asked to provide this office with a written statement of facts, aircraft logbooks, airworthiness certificate registration. Mr. Manning said he would provide this information at his earliest convenience.
