From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot raised landing gear after takeoff from rifle, CO (ril), and noticed the landing gear lever felt loose. Shortly thereafter he smelled smoke and felt heat from the instrument panel area. He returned to the airport (ril), and in preparation for landing discovered the landing gear doors opened, but the landing gear would not lower. He cycled the landing gear lever several times with no results. He operated the manual landing gear system with no results. He contacted a mechanic by radio who directed him through several operations to lower the landing gear with no results. The aircraft proceeded to Grand Junction, CO (gjt), due to the availability of airport facilities and landed with the gear up, causing minor damage to the aircraft belly skin, gear doors, prop and engine. Inspection of the landing gear lever/power pack revealed roll pin had come out, causing the lever to not function.
