From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft departed VFR from sonoma skypark airport, (0Q9) at 1600 PST. Pilot of the aircraft was a student pilot and stated he was intending to do flight training. At 30 minutes into the flight approximately 260 degree radial and 2.5 miles from the skaggs island VOR the aircraft engine began to roll back to 1800 RPM. The pilot stated he checked magnetos, throttle, mixture, primer, and carb heat. When the throttle was decreased the engine would idle back, yet increasing throttle would only yield 1800 RPM. After attempts to clear the engine and the pilot elected to land in the marsh utilizing soft field landing procedures. Damage was limited to the wooden propeller and bent main landing gear struts. No injury to the sole occupant. privacy data omitted Exact engine condition is not yet known, as the engine teardown is pending. Once the engine tear down is complete, this office will file an m&d with the results of the engine teardown.
