From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5) On April 21, 1998, at 1815 PST, the pilot in command of N92BZ, a ximango AMT-100 sailplane, was forced to make a gear up landing at Borrego Springs airport (LO8), when the aircraft lost power on takeoff at an altitude of approximately 100 feet AGL. The aircraft skidded to a halt on the runway sustaining minor damage to the aircraft belly. The wooden propeller was damaged as a result of the prop strike as was the engine crankshaft. Aircraft inspection revealed that the fuel system was plumbed in series when it should have been plumbed in parallel from the firewall to the engine. A review of the aircraft and engine logs produced no record of who orginally performed this fuel system modification. The fuel lines were re-routed iaw the AMT-100 maintenance manual. The engine, mechanical fuel pump, and related items were replaced as a result of the propeller strike. The pilot was not injured. A malfunction or defect report, FAA form 8010-4, was not submitted.
