Narrative: the pilot stated, he departed runway 2 at the venango regional airport, Franklin, PA (fkl) on a pleasure flight in a Kitfox iv, N582RG, at approximately 0800 hours on April 28, 1998. During climb-out, the windscreen cracked on the right hand side from the bottom to the top. The pilot immediately made a left turn to return to the airport for landing. During final approach to runway 11, the left side of windscreen cracked from bottom to top. The pilot increased airspeed in so that in the event the windscreen broke completely off, he would not stall due to the additional drag. The aircraft landed fast and during rollout, the aircraft flipped over onto its back. The pilot did not sustain any injuries. The aircraft log books revealed that service bulletin #34, dated may 1, 1994 regarding the carrying and replacement of the .118" thickness windshield, had not been accomplished on this aircraft. Submission of this report closes this incident.
