From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was practicing solo touchdown autorations and hit hard on tail stinger. Tail stinger bent and allowed impact damage to one tail rotor blade, including the loss of the end cap on that tail rotor blade. The pilot picked the aircraft up to a hover and the out of balance vibration caused damage to the tailrotor gearbox mounting flange. The pilot successfully performed an immediate hovering autoration to terminate the flight. The skin on the aft end of the tail boom was damaged when the recovery crew improperly used a rope wrapped around the end of the tail boom to manuever the helicopter onto a recovery trailer. ATP pilot with private pilot privilages in helicopter. The pilot successfully completed a commercial pilot helicopter check ride on the next day.
