From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Information from the mendocino county sheriffs office case #1-98-002642. The pilot was intoxicated and attempted to fly the airplane from the virgin creek airport (a private airstrip). Witnesses attempted to prevent his departure. The pilot reved the engine, started the airplane forwarded at a high rate of speed, spun airplane and the left wheel went into a ditch causing the airplane to "nose down." The propeller struck the ground and made a large hole in the taxiway causing debris to fly. The witnesses left the scene to call law enforcement. Upon their return with law enforcements, the pilot had exited the airplane and attempted to hide in nearby brush where he was found and arrested.
