From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft experienced a windshift on landing, veered off the rwy and went down an embankment. (.4)according to a witness, the airplane made a short field approach to the same runway that the three previous airplanes had used. The wind, estimated at 5 knots, shifted 180 degrees, and the airplane touched down long. It ground looped, and went over a river bank at the end of the runway. The airport was located in an area surrounded by mountains, except for the river at the end of the runway, and was known for wind shifts. The pilot stated that he never noticed the wind shift. (-23) pilot was making approach to runway 35 (grass) at Bingham, ME, Gadabout Gaddis field. Aircraft touched down approximately 1/3 to 1/2 way down the runway and was unable to stop. The pilot applied left rudder in an attempt to ground loop the aircraft to preclude going off end of runway and into river. Aircraft skidded sideways over bank. Right wing and propeller impacted the ground. Pilot stated wind shifted on final causing floating.
