From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)The pilot: Mr. Singh was interviewed by this office on October 5, 1998. During the interview Mr. Signh stated that he had departed reed-Hillview airport in San Jose, CA at approximately 1900 hours on October 1, 1998 for oakdale, CA. On his return flight to reed-Hillview airport he stated that he was following what bay TRACON "told" him to do, fly 180 degrees and descend from 4,500 feet. He saw a few clouds ahead of him in his descent, saw the ground at the last minute, applied power, and crashed. The aircraft slid down a ravine rolled over and came to rest with each wing being supported by hillside thereby permitting the pilot an area to exit the aircraft. Mr. Singh forced the entry door open and immediately exited the aircraft. He proceeded to walk to a nearby ranch where he made a 911 telephone call to notify the authorities that he had survived the crash. He stated he was flying under VFR and had not filed a flight plan. Investigation into this matter is not yet completed.
