From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5)On October 29, 1998, at 4:12 pm, PIC mark f. honish of business jet solutions, inc. departed a private airstrip (OXS7), destination, longview, Texas, (ggg). This flight, conducted for personal purposes, included f/o jeff engel and passenger Mr. French. The aircraft involved, a Lear jet 31A, sn. 173, was diverted to Austin, Texas due to smoke in the cabin. After takoff form (OXS7), during climb out, it was noted by the flight crew of smoke in the cabin, origin unknown. A squealing sound was also noted in the rear of the cabin. As a precautionary measure, the gear was selected down in the event of a wheel well fire. The aircraft was diverted to Robert Mueller Municipal (aus), Austin, Texas, landing without further incident. The aircraft was taxied to nevitt aircraft inc. of Austin, Texas and inspected. It was determined that the right inborad brake had failed. An inspection of the brake revealed a return spring missing and loose and missing hardware to the brake. No fire indications were noted, however, there was heat damage to the right main landing gear tires. The right inboard brake and right main landing gear tires were replaced and the system tested by Mr. Steven v. henry (A&P # 432254017) after which the aircraft was returned to service. Mark adams of business jet solutions, provided to this office a copy of the aircraft log page, pilot statement, and the submitted malfunciton or defect report. Reason for the brake failure was undetermined.
