From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5) The pilot stated in his written statement of 12/8/98: aircraft N94557, Cessna 172, was damaged on Monday, November 30, 1998, at Herron Airport (7G1) New Cumberland, west Virginia. After landing on runway 22, I taxied down runway 4, turned around and back taxied down runway 22, made a right turn on the road that crossed the runway. My intention was to taxi to the hangar area. Upon turning right, I hit a stop sign causing damage to the leading edge position of the right wing. On-scene investigation by the FAA revealed a motor vehicle stop sign was located approximately 7 ft. high and 5.5 ft from the edge of the road. There is no distinguishable taxi way or any markings indicating that this road, which led to the hangar area, was indeed a road, not a taxi way. The airport facility directory states that a road does pass through the airport. Mr. West was unfamiliar with 7G1, and the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 pm local (sunset). This airport has no taxi way, aircraft taxied on a grassy area, adjacent to the access road. Inspector ron horak aea FSDO 03
