From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft experienced severe shimmy in nose wheel during departure roll on rwy 14L. And the nose gear collapsed. (-5)on January 9, 1999, approximately 1315 CST, CE-210, N7360E, experienced the failure of the nose landing gear during the takeoff roll at Omaha, NE. The PIC reported a violent shimmy around 40 knots, immediately reduced the power, and experienced a propeller strick as the aircraft settled on the runway. The PIC and passenger reported no injury. Investigation disclosed a failure of a solid aluminum shaft substituted for the Cessna steering link, part number 1243018-1. The shaft assembly was secured to the NLG steering links by AN-3 bolts in place of the Cessna spring pins, p/n NAS561P7-16. The failure of this shaft caused the nose landing gear fork to pivot, inducing an instantaneous failure.
