What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(.19)On January 12, 1999, at 1153 central standard time, a gulfsteam commander 695A, N20GT, experienced a hard landing on runway 16 (5,001' x 100' dry/asphalt) near wheeling, Illinois. The airplane sustained substantial damage. The pilot said that the airframe had some ice contamination and that at the time of the accident there was a 10 knot tailwind. The pilot and three passengers reported no injuries. The 14 CFR part 91 corporate flight was operating in visual meteorological conditions. The flight departed columbus, Ohio, at 0940, with an IFR flight plan on file. (-23)during a visual approach to runway 16 at pwk in wheeling, IL., the aircraft experienced a high sink rate at approximately 5 to 10 feet above the runway. The PIC, who at the time was occupying the right seat, attempted to add power and recover but was unable to do so in time. The aircraft impacted the runway hard enough to cause the tail section of bend downwards from the rear entrance door and back with some buckling of the skin of the upper part of the wing near the wing root. The left seat occupant, a non-pilot, was at the controls when the accident occurred.
