From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft was on short final when it struck tree tops about 200 yards from the end of the rwy and crashed 100 yards from the end of the rwy, the pilot and one passenger have serious injuries, the other passenger was fatally injured, the acft has substantial damage. Other circumstances are unknown. (.19) on March 4, 1999, at 1415 central standard time (CST), a Mooney M20F, N9381M, piloted by a private pilot, was destroyed during a collision with the ground following a loss of control in flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The 14 CFR part 91 personal flight was not operating on a flight plan. The pilot and one passenger were seriously injured. A second passenger was fatally injured. The flight departed gulfport, Mississippi, at 0830 CST. Witnesses reported observing the airplane about 200-feet above the ground when it began a turn to the left. The witnesses said the airplane rolled from its left bank to a steep right bank and descended toward the ground. The airplane's right wing, followed by its nose and left wing collided with the ground before it came to rest on a road embankment. The accident site was about 1/2-mile north of the Cabool municipal airport, Cabool, Missouri. (-23)the pilot took off from gulfport, ms (gpt) at approximately 10:55AM CST, at about 2:15PM CST the pilot was on approach to Cabool Memorial Airport (tvb). On the downwind side of runway 21 the pilot made a left hand turn to final, approximately 300 yards from the end of runway 21, witnesses observed that the aircraft rolled right, the right wing impacted the ground, the aircraft cartwheeled and landed on the embankment on us hwy 63. The right front passenger was fatal, and the pilot and rear passenger were seriously injured. Investigation showed that there was no substantial fuel in either tank, and no signs of any fuel leakage on the ground. (.4) witnesses observed the airplane in a left turn when it rolled into a steep right bank and descended and collided with the ground. They said the right wing, followed by the nose and left wingtip, collided with the ground before the airplane came to rest on a road embankment. The on-scene investigation revealed no anomalies with the airframe, flight control system or engine and its accessories that would prevent flight.
