From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On March 16, 1999, Naples control tower issued an instrument departure clearance to N731CW to climb and maintain one zero thousand (10,000) feet and turn right heading 360 degrees. After departing runway 32 the controller (joseph wendricks) observed visually, and on radar, aircraft N731CW climb on runway heading to 1,000 feet and then start a rapid descent down to 400 feet. The aircraft was then observed turning on course over the condominioms and shoreline. The controller contacted ft. myers approach to confirm that the aircraft was climbing and they confirmed it was.
