From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During a normal landing at the North Bend, Oregon airport the aircraft left landing gear collapsed. Investigation revealed that the landing gear attach fitting/shock strut failed. A witness stated that N992DT had a soft, light, landing not a hard landing. The aircraft sustained damage to the left landing gear, propeller, and lower left wing skin. All damage was determined to be as minor. A malfunction and defect report, FAA form 8010-4 was requested from the mechanic that repaired the aircraft. The m & d report will be evaluated when submitted to this office and this report will be amended as necessary. This aircraft is experimental amateur built. The mechanic who repaired the aircraft installed an improved replacement attach fitting that is stronger than the original. I notified the asde web page to inform the general aviation, amateur built community of the potential problem with the attach fitting/shock strut.
