What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(.19) On April 5, 1999, at 1015 central daylight time, a starduster SA-100 homebuilt airplane, N227FG, was substantially damaged following a loss of control while landing at the Lake Texoma State Park Airport, near Kingston, Oklahoma. The non-instrument rated private pilot, who was the owner and operator of the airplane was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the title 14 CFR part 91 personal flight for which a flight plan was not filed. The local flight originated from mckinney, Texas, at 0945. The pilot reported that he maneuvered the airplane to land on runway 36. Soon after touching down, the airplane encountered a gust of wind from the east. The right wing and empennage lifted into the air and the nose dragged along the runway surface for approximately 30 feet. Subsequently, the airplane exited the departure end of the runway, flipped over and came to rest in the inverted position. At the time of the accident the winds were reported from 230 degrees at 15 knots with gusts to 25 knots. An FAA inspector examined the airplane and reported that the rudder was folded over the vertical stabilizer and the right wing spar was damaged. One propeller blade was broken off at the hub and the second propeller blade was "scuffed" at the tip. (-23)the pilot stated that as he arrived at the airport at lake Texoma State park on a flight from mckinney, Texas, that the wind was changing and was out of the west. He first attempted to land to the south and then deceided to land to the north. As he rolled out on the landing, a gust of wind flipped the aircraft on the nose and the aircraft then weather vaned into the wind while skidding on the nose. The aircraft slid sideways on the nose for approximately 20 feet before going off the runway where the aircraft flipped over on its back after striking the grass. The pilot was uninjured adn damage to the aircraft was limited to the rudder tip being bent down, right had upper wing spar appeared to be broken, the wooden propeller being broken, the prop spinner being broken and scuffs to the wheel pants, right lower wing tip, nose cowl and upper wing.
