From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On April 22, 1999, at approximately 5:30AM, a decathlon N2561Z, made an off-airport landing approximatley 4 miles east of Alliance airport, Texas. There was one pilot and a passenger on board, there were no injuries or damage to the aircraft. The flight originated in asheville, n.c., and three fuel stops were made prior to the engine failure due to fuel starvation. Our investigation and an ispection of the aircraft and its fuel systems revealed the most probable cause of the fuel starvation was a worn fuel-cap gasket. This was verified by a letter from the A&P.
