From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft landed short of the rwy and sustained substantial damage. (-23)pilot departed brigham city, UT (bmc) with full fuel, 36 gals. Destination was Wendover ut (env) this is approximately 110NM. Upon arrival at env the pilot contacted UNICOM, whereupon, he was advised that the airport was closed per NOTAM. Pilot then circled a few minutes while the airport manager attempted to clear the rwy of men and equipment. Prior to getting the rwy cleared the engine quit due to fuel starvation (exhausted fuel). Pilot attemtped to land on rwy 12 but did not quite make it and landed in semi-rough terrain in a stalled condition and the aircraft substantially damaged. The pilot departed bmc at approximately 13:40 MDT and crashed at approximately 15:15 MDT, elapsed time of 01:35 mintues. Pilot figured the aircraft burned about 15 gph which should have given about 02:34 of flight time. Post accident inspection of fuel tank and system failed to divulge any leaks or system failures. At this point the cause of the unusally high consumption rate is unknown. Further, the pilot admits not checking NOTAMS for env.

AT THIS POINT THE CAUSE OF THE UNUSALLY HIGH CONSUMPTION RATE IS UNKNOWN. FURTHER, THE PILOT ADMITS NOT CHECKING NOTAMS FOR ENV.
