From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft was 9 miles north of the arpt over the water when the pilot stated the acft was experiencing engine problems and that it was going down, the acft crashed into the water, sank, and was destroyed, the pilot was rescued and has unknown injuries, other circumstances are unknown. (.4)the pilot performed a cross-country flight that was between 3 hours 15 minutes and 3 hours 45 minutes in duration. As he neared his destination, the engine began to run rough. He turned on the boost pump and got a momentary power surge. About two minutes later the engine lost all power and he declared an emergency. The airplane was ditched in a lake, and not recovered. The pilot was rescued about one hour after the ditching, and reported that the fuel gauges indicated 5 gallons of fuel in each tank when the engine lost power.
