From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Captain vise did the aircraft preflight walk around. He noted that the station ground cart was producing considerable smoke and fumes as it handled the aircraft's APU function, which was off line and maintenance deferred due to an air load control being inoperative. There was some smoke and fumes in the aircraft during start-up and taxi believed to be due to the ground unit. Following takeoff the lead flight attendant reported smoke and fumes in the cabin. Unable to locate the source of the problem, an in flight emergency was declared and the flight returned to Meadows Field, Bakersfield (bfl), landing without further incident. Unable to fix the problem at bfl, the aircraft was ferried to the maintenance facility at los angeles international airport. The right air pac machine was replaced. This solved the problem and the aircraft was returned to service with no further problems noted.
