From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5)The pilot reported that during the enroute trip to santa maria, California, he was on flight following and his reported altitude was at 11,000 climbing to clear the mountains. The engine quit running, he performed emergency procedures (switched tanks) and at about 7000 feet the engine started. The pilot reported he made a precautionary landing at Banning airport under power. The pilot had a mechanic readjusted the tension on the fuel cap due to evidence of fuel siphoning. The aircraft was refueled and the trip was completed.
