From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5)During taxi to the run-up area, the engine quit running. The pilot restarted the engine using hot start procedures. The engine ran rough after re-start, so the pilot elected to return to the parking ramp. On the way back to the ramp, the engine quit again, and smoke began coming from the engine cowling. The pilot then shut off the magneto switches and the master switch and exited the airplane. A line service person extinguished the flame with a fire bottle. Inspection of the engine revealed no fuel or other fluid leaks or damaged lines. The carbuerator air intake filter element had the only visible burn damage. Incident #CE1999IGA0077 is considered closed with this report.
