From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 9, 1999, at approx. 1815 local CDT, Mr. Jason thomas digiacomo, the pilot in command of a citabria 7ECA, bearing registration number N2592F, was performing takeoffs and landings at Elmdale airpark (6F4), Abilene, Texas. During a landing, he felt vibration from the landing gear, and executed a go around. Mr. Digiacomo received a radio call on the advisory frequency and advised that the left main gear was hanging at a precarious angle. During the subsequent landing the left main jlanding gear collapsed. The aircraft groundlooped and the left main landing gear ruptured the skin area at the upper left attachment point, the wingtip contacted the ground and sustained minor scratches. The gear fractured at the upper left forward landing gear attach fitting. Evaluation of this landing gear fracture is a classic example of metal fatigue patterns caused by wear and numerous previous landings. There were no injuries to the pilot who was the sole occupant of the aircraft. VFR weather conditions prevailed.
